3D printing is some pretty cool stuff. It's still in "buzz-word" phase in my opinion, but that just means there are lots of opportunities. In the fresh water team we talked about 3D printed water bottles. There doesn't seem to be a big need for such customization though.
You should try to find some of Alex Salkin's charts on various aspects of BGI. (Try asking Alex Mondau...) He's the undisputed master of visualizing all touchy feely phenomena. You may be his heir apparent.
